Introduction

In October 2009, we flew to Hong Kong and stayed a few days before boarding the cruise ship RSS Mariner. We cruised for 15 days to Singapore via Vietnam (Hong Gai, Halong Bay, Chan May, Ho Chi Minh City) and Thailand (Ko Samui, Laem Chabang). From Singapore we flew non-stop to Siem Reap in Cambodia where we stayed for 8 days exploring the temples of Angkor and the surrounding countryside. Finally, we flew straight home via Bangkok, Hong Kong and Auckland. We were greatly impressed with the temples of Angkor, both for their ancient architecture and for way we felt while exploring them.
