Introduction

In December 2012, Lorraine and I flew from our home near Tauranga, New Zealand, to Adelaide, South Australia. After a few days in Adelaide, we took a 4-hour bus ride to Renmark on the Murray River, near the border with the neighbouring state of Victoria. There we boarded an original rear paddle-wheel river boat, the PS Murray Princess. She carries up to 120 passengers up and down the lower part of the Murray River all year long. We were on a special 7-day Christmas Cruise downstream from Renmark to Mannum, not far from Adelaide. The River and its bird life were just beautiful; the photos are a sample of our views, mostly taken from the boat as we motored gently downstream. The main excitements were a partial engine breakdown (photo 7), negotiating the cable ferries (photo 37), and the 3 locks (photo 3).
