Building our house in Blenheim, New Zealand

Introduction

This is a series of photographs taken during the constuction of our new house in Blenheim, New Zealand. The building site is on a ridge with quite a steep slope down to the road so we decided to build the house on top of the garages. Consequently, we have lovely views but expensive foundations. We designed the floor plan which was refined and drawn by Mark Hawkins. The house was built by Andrew Lawson.

The map shows where Blenheim is located in the north-east of the South Island of New Zealand. The region is known as Marlborough and is famous for its wines, especially sauvignon blanc, and its green mussels.
