At the end of April, 2007, Iris and I joined about 30 other local people from Blenheim on a bus tour of New Zealand’s South Island, with two primary objectives, namely the Arrowtown Autumn Festival and Milford Sound. The tour was run by Mr. Alan Wilson the owner of the local Out &About club. Alan drove us in his Out & About bus, Lady Bess, who is equipped with chairs and hot water for picnic morning teas and lunches. This is a great advantage in rural New Zealand, especially as Alan’s wife, Michelle, is an accomplished cook and we start the trip with excellent home-cooked food.
We took two days to reach Queenstown, where we stayed two nights and visited Arrowtown. Then, two nights in Te Anau from where we visited Milford Sound, followed by two more days to get home. Most of the pictures are from Arrowtown, with its Autumn Festival, and from Milford Sound, although we enjoyed a number of stops en route, including an unscheduled one (photos #4 and #5). You need much longer than this to see the South Island properly, but for us residents it was a great week away to some marvellous sights.
